The martinican creole is French based creole, spoken in Martinique. Partially influenced by the English and Spanish language, due to the occupation of the island by those two nations. It includes also African and Arawak’s words and terminology. The syntax, the grammar, the conjugation are based on the West African’s languages. It is a French creole that has a unique accent and rhythm, making it extremely melodic.
It became a real language, always morphing under the influence of the French, the US English, and the Anglo Island around.
Very close to the Guadeloupian, French Guyana, and Haitians creoles, but also to the creole spoken in the ex French islands nearby such as Sainte Lucie and the Dominique. Some consider the Guadeloupian creole, the Dominican creole, the Martinican creole, the saint Lucian creole as one and unique language, the Antillean Creole.>>more information
